This morning, my friend and I started out from home and walked 2 kms towards the North. Then we turned left and walked another 3 kilometers. At this point, we started to get hungry and my friend said that perhaps we should start the 5 kms walk back. I laughed and said, "But home is only 4 kilometers away!"
Who was right? Why?

The author is right. This is a right angled triangle of dimensions 2-3-4. Pythagoras theorem.
