Happy New Year

My New Year Wish is for the soldiers who will spend the New Year away from their families, in an alien land that hates them, and that they hate. Both, not without reason.

To Indian Army widows who lost their husbands this year. To Army fiancees who stepped into holy matrimony with dreams in their eyes, and the awareness that their dreams are pawned to the terrorists in Kashmir.

To the terrorists in Kashmir, who have not known love and forgiveness in years, and what can be more unfortunate than to perenially live in hate?

To the North east, where the people are as beautiful as the land, and to the unrest there.

To the Pakistani army, that was taught to hate the people who are nourished by the same rivers and are their cultural twins.
To the Indian Army jawans who will spend their days without knowing what it is to blog, to come home every night, or to earn INR 25,000 per month.

To the Iraqi army jawans who are taught to target their own countrymen, and who actually do it . To the American army teenagers who spent their Christmas in a land that hates Christmas and doesn’t care about the New Year. To the houses they destroyed.

To the Mall hopping big salary earning young people who know what it is to eat at Ruby Tuesdays, but have no idea of the food their soldiers eat while defending their plush IT park and SEZ offices. To the people who earn and live happily because of the sacrifices these men in uniform make everyday, and who secretly deride the defence man for not making as much money.

This year is dedicated to the soldiers and the deemed soldiers across the world. I wish them Peace!

Happy New Year!

we could go on praying for peace, but it seems like a utopian concept. as long as there remain boundaries, there will be wars, and soldiers and deaths...

happy new year to u too!

This was such a touching post.

Kashmir...."agar jannat kahi hai toh yehi hai, yehi hai, yehi hai !!!"

I pray for those warriors.
Have a sweet new year.

Actually the chow we had was pretty good, even the MREs - except for the pork patty and the "ham and death" loaf. Didn't wreck any houses myself, as far as I know. Several of my tent-mates missed the birth of their children, which was sad.

Another odd thing, I didn't really hate anyone at the time, and found the country I was in rather interesting.

Generally I have found religion is fine, it is the religious people you have to watch out for.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and you have you a great New Year!!

My new year wish is for the innocent men, women and children who have been killed by the soliders instead of the culprits.

To all the hindu widows who (still in many areas) are forced to marry the husband's brother or spend their entire lives wearing white, secluded and looked down upon (once the husband dies), let alone they were given the choice to be burned alive with their husband's chita.

To the government occupying Kashmir .. how they don't let democracy propser in Kashmir and don't let the Kashmiri people decide what they want to do through Elections.

To the Indian army who are taught to hate Pakistanis from an early age.

To the soliders occupying Iraq who have killed families after raping all the women (many now found guilty in US courts)

To the bias minds who don't know or understand the truth, even when it's in front of them.

Nice thing about New Years - it is kind of a do-over. Lets try not to screw this one up too badly.

Hi Sophie: It is January now.. when are you coming to India? Do let me know.. :-) And thanks for the hugs.. REALLY needed them!

Hi Dharmabum: True.. but the scale at which its happening now.. everywhere.. its as if our world leaders have forgotten the meaning of the terms "Negotiation" and "Diplomatic war".. this, from a country that fought a Cold War for ages.

Hi Neihal: Thank you! And how was your New Year?

Hi cinderella: Thank you!

Hi Biscuits: Thank you, and Happy New year to you too! :-) How was it?

Hi Phosgene Kid:
Generally I have found religion is fine, it is the religious people you have to watch out for.
.. SUPER!! And i SOOOO Agree!
Thanks for the New Year wishes.. hope you have a lovely year ahead too!

Hi Madhuri: Amen! And Happy New Year!

How do we know said...

Hi Chiya: Amen too! :-)

Hi Nabeel: :-) That smile really did come to me when I read your comment.

Am not sure if the comment was a strong support for my post, or a strong protest against it.. but it definitely is good! And you word it well!

Before I start the response to your comment, would like to say that the weaknesses of one part of the world, by themselves, do NOT absolve any other part of the world of its own follies. To point a finger at others will not lessen our own guilt or misery, whichever the case may be.

And here is my response:

My new year wish is for the innocent men, women and children who have been killed by the soliders instead of the culprits.
- Yes, for them too. But this fact, that innocent people are being killed by the men in uniform, by itself, does not take away the fact that the men in uniform are at a place miles away from home, suffering significant personal loss, because the people in a part of the country believe in terrorism.

There is also another angle to this innocent civilian casualty. Terrorism in Punjab did not die because of KPS Gill alone. It died when the terrorists lost the support of the ordinary people. When the local people put progress and economics above religion. Above violence and the need for violence. That is when innocent people stoppend becoming terrorists, and when the civilian killings for "information" also stopped by default. It is for the people of Kashmir to restore peace to their state. Not for the army.

To all the hindu widows who (still in many areas) are forced to marry the husband's brother or spend their entire lives wearing white, secluded and looked down upon (once the husband dies), let alone they were given the choice to be burned alive with their husband's chita.
- Yes, for them too.

To the government occupying Kashmir .. how they don't let democracy propser in Kashmir and don't let the Kashmiri people decide what they want to do through Elections.
- Which Kashmir is this? Because the Indian Kashmir has an elected government. Does the PoK have one?
But then again, we know so little of what happens there.
RE. the right to referendum, how come there is never a demand that pakistan should allow Kashmir to be a united terrain, so that the kashmiris can have a referendum? How come the right to a United Kashmir never occured to you?

To the Indian army who are taught to hate Pakistanis from an early age.
- For sure, to them. For also having to worry about the Chinese friendship, the Naxals across the country, and of course, our friendly neighbourhood country.

To the soliders occupying Iraq who have killed families after raping all the women (many now found guilty in US courts)
- Oh, definitely to them.

To the bias minds who don't know or understand the truth, even when it's in front of them.
- You know, when I was younger, it was easy to live in a world of black and whites. Now, my vision is not so sure. All I see around me is Grey.

And what, then, is Truth?

How do we know said...

Hi Cyberkitty: YOU SAID IT! I almost feel like sending all the BUSH a Get Well Soon card so he might be cured of his insanity in Iraq. The Moron!!

Hi fairscape: Great to hear from you! How have you been? Happy New year to you too!! :-)

Hi artnavy: What can I say to that episode? Both sides have their own story to tell.. the Army says that the officers were not handed to the officer who came to take charge, and the police says the officers just misbehaved. Like I said to Nabeel already, one lives in a world of greys. What the armymen did in terms of eve teasing.. there is no grey about that.. not in my book, yet.

How was your New Year Celebration?

Hi itw: Thanks! How did it go for you?

HI Keshi: Thanks!! You still have not let out what happened to that hiring plan? Am waiting to hear!!
