Jaago Aiyaan

ਗੱਲ ਦੋ ਹਰਫ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਾਕਾ

ਦੁਨਿਆ ਜਾਗੋ ਦਾ ਚਾਕਾ

Gal 2 harfee hai kaaka

Duniyaa jaago da chaakka

I loved this couplet because it really lends itself to the many meanings of Punjabi  words.

At the very base, Jaago is the village group that comes to wake people up in the village. The songs are positive and they set the tone for the rest of our day. Chaakka can mean - a glimpse, or a smokescreen (yes, the same word means both things in Punjabi).

When we come into the world, the person who creates our first impression of the world is our Jaago, and they lay the basis of the illusion that we will live for the rest of our lives.

When we start our spiritual journey, the person who comes to wake us up, gives us a glimpse into that which is to come.

Apparently, I am very good at writing stuff in delirious fever. Yesterday was my first delirious fever in many years. Not, I think, since 13 years or so.

And one more in Hindi, which is owed to early morning ideas that just pop in:

 अपनी राख हूँ

जूठे बर्तन माँजने के काम आती हूँ।
