Quit the work trashing already

Monday Blues

Posts like this:

They make me sad.

For 2 reasons:
1. Work takes about one third of our day, and after sleep, the most significant chunk. If we are not happy there, that WILL lead to imbalance in other aspects of life.
2. In the Indian tradition, work is revered, respected, worshipped. So it makes me sad to see people trashing their work, workplace, and colleagues.

A shopkeeper opens the shop but prays to it first. A dancer dances but bows to the stage and the audience first.

We do not understand this concept of hating that which gives you money for food, clothing and shelter. But more than that, personally, I don't understand this concept of being at a place that makes you unhappy.

It is easy for me to say - Either like the life you have or live the life you like.
But for a generation brought up on a dose of Monday Blues, Toxic manager, workplace hatred being normalised, it is really hard to introduce gratitude as an attitude. These things started off being funny. Now, they are not.

GenZ employees enter the workplace with defensiveness built in. They are judged before they have had a chance to work, and they judge before lifting their first pen (oops, laptop). None of that is sustainable in the long run. This is not how careers are built.

If you are a corporate employee reading this, please start by making small changes. That hatred is not hurting anyone but you. A very wise person said - Anger is the fire that burns down the heart holding it.
So, imho, and unsolicited advice and all that - it IS worthwhile to quit the mass comm messaging of work trashing and start cultivating happiness in your everyday work.

Dear Ansh:
Don't invite coworkers home if you don't like them. But don't trash them on social media.

Dear Khayrul
We cover this in the First Time Managers Program. Thank you.

Having lived this life for 25 years, i can safely say that toxic managers are the exception rather than the norm. I have generally had fantastic managers and great mentors. Awesome colleagues who will also say that they had as many good managers as bad. And people who started off being freshers and became managers and mentors. They were kind, they took time to explain, and they covered for their teams.

Please, quit the work trashing already.
