home

In a place, now far away
(but I remember it like yesterday)
Is home.

There
The dictionary is very simple
It has words like
Happy
Hungry
Sad
Angry
Real
Feel
Think

But not words like
Right
Wrong
Proper
Should

I have forgotten
The road to that house
But not
What it looked like
From the inside – Happy. And Real.

There, one day..
Insh-e-allah
I will find my way again
Or perhaps
Guided by a guardian angel
Will wander onto that road again
And step
Through the ever familiar door

That house
Is the hope
I live on.
It has to exist.

Hi Anil: Thank you!

This is exquisitely beautiful, hdwk. You have put words to 'somewhere' so universal that it is not just you, and I, who carry this hope

Fantastic writing my friend
Xoxoxo

The first thing that came to my mind was Muzaffar Ali's Umrao Jaan and the ending... perhaps a bad comparison..but haven't been able to oust the verse from my head ever since..

:)

बुला रहा है कौन मुझ को चिलमनो के उस तरफ
मेरे लिए भी क्या कोई उदास बे-करार है

यह क्या जगह है दोस्तों ....

True, and touching! You have captured the essense of 'home' so well. Why is it that we women never find it where we 'have' to be!

hi sandhya: "Why is it that we women never find it where we 'have' to be!" - amrita pritam put is beautifully somewhere - ghar, aurat ka vo sapna hota hai, jo kabhi poora nahi hota... or some such... lemme go look for that quote.. but we all know what we mean..
