Why do we bring children into this world if..

... This is what they have to finally meet?
Israel, Africa, Iraq... how does the name of the place matter?

I was way too disturbed by these pictures to put them up on this blog. maybe its what happens to a person after they have had a child. maybe its because i just saw my sleeping son, and one of these children looks uncannily similar..

Why bring any more children into the world?

It amazes me that the countries that cannot support a very large population seem hell-bent on having the most kids. My wife's grandma gave her some very sage advice - don't drown yourself in children.

Oh my God-the first thing that came out of my mouth on seeing the pictures was- Mummy!Infact I shouted it so loudly that Mama came rushing into the room and I made her see these pictures...she was moved too.. This is really barbarious! whats the reason for indulging in such slaughter-why this murderous act?

Dear Sister,

I understand why you couldn't post these. I can hardly stand to look at my own blogs these days.

Still, I will continue mynhowling until someone in a position to hear me does something.

A line from an old poem

Only we two and yet
Our howling can encircle the world's end

And yes, of course, these pictures bring back vividly the site of my own son's lifelkess , bloody corpse lying there on the floor...

Such a thing has always happened and always will while there is hatred between nations. The person whose blog they were on (I couldn't do more than glance at the writing as the pictures were so terrible) seems to have posted them for the purpose of spreading hatred against Israel. That makes things worse, not better. There are, as you say, atrocities in many countries and hate doesn't help, only positive action to make things better.

Dear Z - I wish you would read what I wrote before judging my motive.

My purpose is, as stated, to bring an end to this by spreading the knowledge of what is happening. I state that I don't care who is to blame, we are all responsible. I try very hard to include the other country that borders Gaza, Egypt, whenever I say something against Israel's actions.

In a comment, I suggest stopping aid to BOTH Israel and Egypt as a way to end the tragedy of Gaza.

Again, I am not interested in spreading either blame or hatred, I am interesting in taking responsibility and bringing these atrocities to an end.

If you read the blog, you will find that I have also taken up the causes of the monks of Burma, the end of "honour" killings, the rape of Darfur, the female foeticide of Punjab (this against my beloved Sikhs!), the murder of young girls by stoning, and on and on. I do not want to spread hatred; I do want to educate and spread awareness. Sometimes shock tactics, as in these pictures, is most effective. (Compare these to the pictures of dead bodies of tortured monks in Burma also in The Road To Khalistan.)

I hope to spur people into action. In this case, I suggest writing to your governmental agencies to put an end to this. Let me add, e-mails to news agencies, demanding that they prominently cover this would also be helpful. I sincerely hope that telling the truth and calling for nonviolent action is not hatemongering.

Now, friend Z ji, you know my motives.

Do you have a better way to fight against atrocity? What would you suggest I do? BTW, being silent is not an option.

An entirely reasonable and gracious reply, Mai. I should have read your blog properly before remarking on it, and I apologise.

Dear Z - Apology accepted! You are a most gracious and polite lady!

So now I hope I have a new friend.

I have always been hot-headed. Who would ever have thought I would learn the art of courteous diplomacy in my late-middle years, lol?

What is the answer to that question? That we should not bring children into this world? Or that we need to change the world our children will come into? The latter is more difficult, but not impossible.

It was just horrifying!!!

the images were really horrifying....what we can do about it i am not sure? the question " why do we bring children into this world.." is something to consider

Z said...

The answer, surely, is that we keep trying and that children are the hope for the future. Our children make us both more vulnerable and stronger.

I think I would like to try to answer this question.

Perhaps as the mother of a child murdered by hatred, perhaps my answer will have a little weight.

We bring children into this world because - although we know the extent and power of evil in this world - we more believe in the power of good over evil, of life over death.

Whatever else we believe in, we refuse to give in to despair, we insist on putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward, confident that our struggle to overcome evil will add a little bit of good, of light to the darkness. Confident, too, that the small life we have called forth into existence will have brightened the world for at least a moment. And that is good.

We bring children into this world as a part of our saying YES to life.

(This attitude is a part of what we Sikhs call Chardi kala.)

When I remember holding my son as a baby, going crazy with his drumming as a five-year-old, helping him learn to tie up his hair, hearing his voice deepen and watching his pride as that tiny mustache began to grow, I can ask why he had to die, but I cannot why he had to live or why I brought him into the world.

Chardi kala to all and to all a good night!

Hi All: Thank you for reading this post and for visiting the link.
Am sorry, because i will not be able to respond to individual comments in this case... all I feel inside is a stony silence. It refuses to go away. The images, one has waashed away with deliberate effort. But the stony silence, the sheer shock of it all...that refuses to go.

In any combat zone, women and children are "collateral damage" - meaning, we try and save them if we can - on both sides. What is shocking about this, is the deliberate murder of children to break the back of the attacked people. I am not able to respond to that at all.

It is enough to break my heart.

I don't understand how anyone can hurt a child. I don't care what race or religion a person is.

relate much to this feeling... mothers worrying for their children's future...
and why mothers do not decide for the world... perhaps it would a better place...

We bring children into this world because life is stronger than death.

Period.

Nothing in the world, no genocide, no holocaust no Gaza, no calls for an Azad Kashmir or Khalistan or separate Gorkhaland will ever make life lose.

It will go on.

good question..man knows only two things inherently: copulation and survival..everything else has to be taught..hence the children without any thought..
